What is escrow on Mercado Facinho

On this page

Escrow is payment protection: the buyer pays Facinho, the amount is held, and it is only released to the seller at the end of the warranty period, if there is no dispute. It is already active in the beta.

How it works, step by step

  1. The buyer pays at checkout (PIX or card). The money goes to Facinho, not to the seller.
  2. The account is delivered to the buyer.
  3. The amount is held during the warranty (7 days by default, up to 90 if the seller offers more).
  4. If there is no dispute, the amount is released to the seller at the end of the warranty.

If the buyer confirms earlier

The buyer can confirm receipt before the warranty ends. In that case, the seller is paid on the 3rd day after the sale or at the moment of confirmation, whichever comes last. Confirmation cannot be undone and ends the possibility of a dispute.

If there is a dispute

The amount stays held while the team reviews the evidence from both parties. After the decision, the amount goes to whoever is right: a refund to the buyer or a release to the seller.

If you are buying

  • Your money does not go straight to the seller.
  • If something goes wrong within the warranty, you can open a dispute. See How to open a dispute.

If you are selling

The money from your sales moves through the wallet balances, in this order:

  1. In escrow: the sale was paid and the amount is held during the warranty.
  2. Pending: an intermediate step, before the amount becomes available.
  3. Released: the amount can now be withdrawn.

Why it exists

Escrow protects both sides: the buyer is guaranteed the chance to open a dispute before the seller is paid, and the seller knows that a paid sale will be released when the period ends without problems.
